The Safe Network - training, advice, guidance and resources for organisations working with children
Fiona Phur is the Voluntary Youth Sector Development Worker for the South West regional Youth Work Unit and currently has a role in promoting the Safe Network in the region.
Parents need to know that their children are safe when taking part in activities in the local community. Equally, children and young people themselves need this reassurance. Therefore, it is important for groups to have sufficient safeguards in place.
The Safe Network, which is jointly managed by NSPCC and Children England, supports third sector workers, organisations and umbrella groups to safeguard the children and young people that take part in voluntary and community activities. They do this by providing information, training and awareness; help with policies and guidance, specialist information and resources.
As well as ensuring that Third Sector Children and Youth Organisations are supported, the Safe Network is particularly keen to support groups and activities where work with children and young people many not be the core activity but where they are actively involved.
Fiona will make contact with anyone in your networks and organisations who might find the Safe Network useful, and will call, visit or arrange for resources to be sent; dependant on the nature of support required. Her contact details are fiona_phur@learning-southwest.org.uk or call 01823 347958.
The Safe Network also have a really useful website featuring resource packs that can be downloaded or for a free registration can be posted.
